Using the Core Body of Knowledge to Supervise Staff and Identify Professional Development Needs – 4 Session Series

The Core Body of Knowledge (CBK) provides a framework for supervisors to evaluate performance of individual staff and supports the planning of professional development to ensure that it is intentional and relevant to the strengths, interests, and needs of each teacher. Using the CBK Assessment and Professional Development Planning Tool, we will analyze various video clips to gather information to guide supervisory discussions, performance appraisals, and professional development plans. Participants will also begin to explore ways to utilize the CBK to build an anti-bias culture in their early childhood programs and support the ongoing development of educators.  Sessions must be taken in chronological order.

Interest-Driven Learning Framework – 3 Session Series

This three-session series provides early childhood professionals with the foundational knowledge necessary to create curriculum that embodies the Core Beliefs of the New York State Core Body of Knowledge and the New York State Early Learning Guidelines. These include the beliefs that children construct their own knowledge based on their curiosity and driven by their interests, that children learn through play, and that children learn best when the adults in their lives work in partnership with each other. These beliefs are common to the research foundation of emergent curriculum, Creative Curriculum and High Scope, and this professional development series is appropriate for teachers and leaders who use these approaches. Sessions must be taken in chronological order.
