Job Opportunity! The Children’s Place at the Plaza seeking highly-qualified applicants for the Executive Director position

The Children’s Place at the Plaza, a child care center, is seeking highly qualified applicants for the Executive Director (ED) position. The ED is responsible for the operation of all three sites (on Swan Street, at the Empire State Plaza, and at the State Education Department building). We are seeking a person who is highly motivated to ensure that the children that attend the center receive high quality care and learning to ensure that they fulfill the maximum of their potential. Candidates must be committed to providing care and learning as the center’s curriculum prescribes, adhere to the principles and practices of the Freedom of Movement program for babies, and overall follow the guidelines of QUALITYstarsNY York to offer the highest quality programming.


General Description:  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director is responsible for the overall operation of Children’s Place at the Plaza including three child care sites (Swan Street, Crystal Room, State Ed) in accordance with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations, and the policies of the Board of Directors of the Center.



The minimum requirements include a B.A. in Early Childhood Education or related field with (if related field, candidate must have 12 Early Childhood credits) at least 1 year of teaching experience and 1 year supervisory experience. The preferred candidate will hold a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience and 3-5 years of experience operating a child care center.  All candidates must meet qualifications set out by OCFS, licensing regulation 418-1.13.


General areas of responsibilities are:

exercises strong organizational leadership in managing day to day operations of

the center and implements policies and procedures on behalf of the Board of


  • fiscal management of the organization which includes budgeting and grants management,
  • staff supervision and staff development: trains, implementation of contract negotiation, recruits, interview, hires, schedules, trains, supervises, evaluates, counsels, or dismisses personnel according to the personnel policies and contract,
  • program administration which includes adherence to the center’s mission, values and curriculum, and adherence to and implementation of all OCFS regulations pertaining to child care centers.
  • operations management which includes adherence to and implementation of all laws and regulation pertaining to child care centers, vendor relationship and management
