Facilitated Exploration for PD Providers of the Core Body of Knowledge and related NAEYC & NYS Foundational Documents

A Preparation Course for the New York State Training and Technical Assistance Professional Credential

Formally known as the 6-day Introduction to the New York State Core Body of Knowledge for Professional  Development Providers

Examine the beliefs, content, and organization of the Core Body of Knowledge (CBK) developed by New York Works for Children and how it relates to professional development. Series must be taken in chronological order.

Cost: $150/session

Session 1:

Unpacking the Core Body of Knowledge – Participants will unpack the Core Body of Knowledge through an exploration of the document layout and content areas while identifying the varied audiences and applications of the resource.

Session 2:

Using the CBK to Support State and National Systems – Participants will explore the interconnectivity of the Core Body of Knowledge with National and State standards and guidelines and examine the expected knowledge, skills, and dispositions of NYAEYC T-TAP Professional Development Specialists and Coaches. 

Session 3:

Ethical Practices and the Professional Development Provider – After unpacking the three NAEYC Position Statements on Ethical Conduct participants will examine the elements of common early childhood ethical responsibilities and ethical dilemmas and connect ethical practices to behaviors and skills in the Core Body of Knowledge.

Session 4:

Considerations for Creating Culturally Responsive Professional Development – Beginning with reflection on topics of identity, diversity, justice, and action, participants will identify the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to facilitate discussions and support educators in their efforts to create culturally responsive learning environments.  

Session 5:

Creating Responsive Professional Development Practices – Through an exploration of the NAEYC Conceptual Framework of Early Childhood Professional Development and the Core Body of Knowledge participants will reflect on adult learning theory, content selection methods, and choosing the appropriate professional development formats.. 

Session 6:

Putting It All Together! – Participants will practice targeted observation and use data from a fictional early childhood program to design a Professional Development Plan utilizing the elements covered in the first five days of the series.

A Facilitated Exploration of the Developmentally Appropriate Practices  Fourth Edition for Professional Development Providers

This series provides a deep dive into the 2020 NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice Position Statement in conjunction with the book Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs, Fourth Ed.  Participants will explore and reflect on the impact of DAP within the context of their role in working with children, families, and/or early care and learning professionals.

Cost: $75/session
